[edit] Individual Chapter Pages
In an effort to make it easier to edit (and subsequently lock) chapters, I've copied most of the chapters to individual pages (and others have copied the rest). This will eliminate most of the editing conflicts that people are seeing, which happen because multiple people are trying to edit different parts of the same page at once.
After initially trying to maintain some sort of order to the TOC, I've given up and will let chaos guide it.
Please use the individual chapter pages from now on. If you do add something in the middle, make damn well sure to link to it from the preceding and following sections in the story, or it won't be accessible from the chapter-by-chapter version of the story.

[edit] locking chapters
Yup, sounds sensible to me. A time limit for locking chapters would give a greater chance for cohesion and serve as a reference point for later editing...the problem with any sort of time based deadline though is that with it would probably come some sort of "edit sniping". What if the admins locked chapters unannounced when they were satisfied with them?--Cardinal
is main page fixed yet??? deff need chapters locked after certain time.. --Djjansen 05:54, 2 February 2007 (CST)
I agree with all of this Beldarin. Also, someone below talks about the problem of continuity, but if we work on one chapter at a time and then lock it, sequentially, the previous chapters become the 'bible' for what is and isn't possible.--Sunlight 05:43, 2 February 2007 (CST)
I like he idea of a proper, clear synopsis page, where future ideas can be set out, people could then start to work together, might help avoid the nazi-alien-monkey-plague-etc. And how about a daily freeze per chapter/page where u could read and review the work, and then a chance to edit or rewrite a week later, when it's been given some time to settle? I love Eisnels idea of character bio's, just as in a regular wiki, again, adds to cohesion, and would give people a clearer view of who's present within the novel, and where characters are likely to go... Also, how about a 1 day wait before being able to make more than minor edits on a page. People who want to contribute will be willing to wait, idle spammers won't! --Beldarin 04:49, 2 February 2007 (CST) The above sounds like an excellent idea. Thanks for all the useful comments - balances out the nonsense--Jhoward 05:46, 2 February 2007 (CST)

PROPOSAL TO ADMIN: Suggest (1) dividing up the month into a chapter per 2/3 days and locking all the others + (2) adding an outline/synopsis page to keep it all straight. what do you think ? --Sunlight 04:14, 2 February 2007 (CST)
hello everyone - jeremy from Penguin here. Well - this is all interesting, but as you probably know we've already had some vandalsim and some genuine errors where whole chapters (or the entire wiki itself) has ended up in the wastebasket. People have also been asking about locking chapters and so I wanted to ask you all what the best course of action should be.
One idea is to take a daily snapshot of the novel in progress which would be locked and go in the left hand nav bar. We could keep the novel editable, but always have a version to revert to if necessary.
We could also lock chapters, but perhaps reopen them at a later point for an edit as the novel progresses.
As you all know - this is an experiment, so your views will be taken on board and, if possible, acted on. --Jeremyet 04:12, 2 February 2007 (CST)
How about making each chapter a separate page, so there's less overwriting. Then each page could be locked while edited. --Thunderfoot
[edit] Wikimedia enhancements
Perhaps the whole page shouldnt be editable, only the chapters themselves... It is anoying to edit something in one chapter and not able to save it becuase of an edit in another chapter. With editing happening every few seconds this should be addressed. Lincoln 18:10, 5 February 2007 (EST)
I've started creating pages for each of the chapters so that this doesn't happen. --Gamblor856 18:45, 5 February 2007 (EST)
- you are not keeping up... --Leperflesh 19:43, 5 February 2007 (EST)
- You are substantially removing the humor in the chapter naming system (and, I should add, effectively removing whole chapters from the book) as you create your table of contents and sub-pages. Why? --Leperflesh 19:59, 5 February 2007 (EST)
- Just trying to add enough order that it takes. I'm going to leave it alone from now on. Reasons: the editing conflicts from trying to put everything on one page was driving me up the wall.--Gamblor856 20:08, 5 February 2007 (EST)

I did some work on breaking up the novel into sections so its easier to keep track. See Main Page Discussion for more info. --Lincoln 12:43, 9 February 2007 (EST)
